No offence to Miyazaki, who is, or course, a God in human form. Seriously. The guy really stands up for his beliefs and his work and doesn't take crap from Disney executives. The distribute his movies on his terms. And if they stray from the path, he sends them a katana.

No. Really.

I went back down the nostalgia road and got a bootleg version of a Ghibli movie. Not by Miyazaki, but by his son : Tales of Earthsea. It's not coming to Canada for a while because of that weird TV series they made of it taking the distribution rights for the title. And now, I remember why we used to buy Chinese bootleg. Gotta love it.

One day left before my departure to Florida!

Animal rights activists should not be confused with nature lovers. I'm all for protecting the natural world as well, but a part of that is so that I can eat animals that aren't all mutated and weird...not to mention tampered with. Ick!

"I protect nature so I may eat it."

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Oh, I could never be a vegetarian. I love meat too much. T.T How do you have the personality of a vegetarian, anyway? Do you just act really protective of nature or something?

Miyazaki = God. My favorite film of his is Spirited Away, but I love Princess Mononoke, too. &hearts

I haven't seen Tales of Earthsea, though. Even if it's by his son, I dunno if he could truly continue his father's legacy when Miyazaki passes on. =(

Have a good and safe trip to Florida!

I think people just assume i'm a veggie because i'm a recycle and fruit maniac at work.

Hummm... his son is a little weird. Everyone kinda expects his to share or copy Miyazaki's style, but he's less... women loving and war hating then his dad (he likes action and darness). I think if people would have let him develop more his own style then just expect him to be exactly like his dad, he would have been a better director.

The two of them fight a lot. "Ponyo" was a reconciliation project for them.

I still have yet to watch Ponyo.

Not by Miyazaki, but by his son : Tales of Earthsea.

Like Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea, or something else with the same title?

We're on the same page here. ^_^ Nature is great and something to be preserved... But I rather like our spot on the food chain. And the cute things taste ever so delicious.

Reading that article makes me respect Miyazaki all the more! The guy has been a huge insperation to me and the writer thing I do. (Got to love the no cuts.)

Was Legend of Earthsea any good? I was a bit torn on it. With a dark doubt that maybe the son was riding on the name of the father.

It is Ursula LeGuin's. Well, inspired by it. She was kindoff angry.

Quote from wikipedia :

"Ursula K. Le Guin, the author of the Earthsea Series, gave a mixed response to the film in her review on her website. Le Guin commended the visual animation in the film but complained that the plot and the content had been changed drastically. She also praised certain depictions of nature in the film, but felt that the production values of the film were not as high as previous works directed by Hayao Miyazaki, and that the film's excitement was focused too much around scenes of violence. Her initial response to Goro Miyazaki was "It is not my book. It is your movie. It is a good movie".[11] However, she was unhappy that the comment was disclosed on the movie's public blog.

Le Guin's mixed opinion of the film is indicative of the overall reception of the film, particularly in Japan. In Japan, the film found both strong proponents and detractors. Many of the opinions can best be summed up in a response to Le Guin's comments on her website, that the weak points of the film were the result of "when too much responsibility was shouldered by someone not equipped for it".[12]

The critical reaction in Japan was mixed and the movie at year's end in Japan was awarded "Worst Movie" in Bunshun's Raspberry Awards, which presided over by a panel of 32 movie critics. Goro Miyazaki also won the "Worst Director" award.[13][14]"

All I can think of now is that conversation we had last week where you were dying to eat meat so I asked you what meat you were having and you replied meat with meat sauce. :P

The legend of Earthsea definitely is not the strongest Ghibli film out there. It is full of EPIC (much like the original books it's inspired from) but there's a lot of discontinuity in the movie and weird things that pop out of nowhere. So you watch it for the pretty more then the story.

I suggest internets. It's part of the Disney distribution list, so it will come out dubbed, but not until late 2010-2011 because of a conflicts with the rights in the usa with the sci-fi channel making a tv series based on the books.

Being a vegetarian without being linked to your culture is a very, very recent development. Not to mention that most colder countries usually have a pretty meat-ful diet. Except Tibet. Vegetarians in the himalayas. Just to prove how awesome they are.

Awwww (is disapointed in the lack of sexytimes)

Yeah, I brought clothing for various types of weather. But considering I just spend months at -20, I think +15 is still an improvement.

..............................Hey wait you live in Florida? *checks your facebook* DAMMIT! 5 hours away from where i'm going to be!!!! (I'm at Fort Myers) Let's compromise and meet at Disneyworld. LOL

Seriousely, though, it might be hard to plan for this trip, but next trip to florida? Let's plan You+Me+Disney BABY! ALL NIGHT LONG!

Sadly, Disney will kick you out before too late so that the third shift can come in and make things all pretty for the next morning. (I saw them! They must suffer from insomnia!)

Ah, those Tibet people are pretty darned awesome no matter what they eat!

But if colder countries usually have a meat-ful diet, that certainly explains my constant craving for dark meat. I've cut down on it for health reasons and gone to fish instead, but I'll never renounce it completely.

Well, we can if you really want to... LOL

Yep, lived here for almost 25 years. Too long in my consideration. My Facebook says Orlando, but I live about an hour away in Melbourne. Closer to the East Coast, near where the shuttle launches. Here is a map for a visual.

That, my friend, would be totally awesome!! :DDD
