Well, today i'm feeling happier. For a couple of reasons. First off, the number of sub-humans (yes, you read right. Sub-humans. I'm not nice today) as dramatically dropped (not due to me killing any of them, i'm sad to report). Second, I got an interview in Montréal. For a museum.

OH YEAH.

I'm not telling you guys which because I don't want to jinx it but it's a good one.

The third reason for my more upbeat attitude is because my friend Celeste (who is now living in BC) is the sweetest. Ever. She knows nothing of anime, or animation really, but she found this on Youtube and sent it to me with a long email telling me really nice things. All my friends are awesome. She picked this video because she remembered I loved Avatar: the last Airbender and also because of an inside joke. It is known among people that only a few songs will actually get me to dance in public (I mean actual dancing, not just my little 'bored and waiting' jigs). 'Shake it' is one of them (Isa!Dancing song list also includes: Under Pressure, I like to Move it and Somebody to Love. Damn you, Queen!). So this video made me really happy, and the fact that she knows nothing of animation and still tried hard to find something to make a smile appear on my face really is just the added cherry on the sunday.

So what gets you guys to shake it?

Needless to say, this put me in a mood to draw Avatar fanart. So voilà.

Avatar characters, like Slayers characters are super fun to draw. I both cases, I think it's because they did the character designing very well. The characters are colorful and their movements/costumes really reflect their personality. It makes an attrative character.

A tendancy I have noticed in a lot of recent japanese products (especially video game RPGs) is that they are making more and more really strange, elaborate costume designs and hair styles for characters. The character looks neat in the end, but what he's wearing doesn't look confortable at all (and according to some daring cosplayers, no - it isn't) and the character doesn't look 'Natural'. These designs kinda feel like they are created to make a character look unique and intriguing and they usually achieve that. But you don't really feel the character. It's like his image and persona don't really match. The character doesn't look like he wanted to dress that way. He looks like he was just born that way and kinda developped character after that. You know which characters I mean. They look awesome, but lack heart!

I took a lot about character designing lately. Maybe it's a career I could consider one day. After the museum thing, of course! MWAHAHAHA!

Over and Out.

Yay Isa! :D I'm so glad to hear that today went better for you. *cheers* You really should look into character designing since you're amazing at it. As a side effect of this post all of those songs are running through my head. As a thank you gift, "Don't stop me now" "Safety Dance" "Fat Bottomed Girls", and "Killer Queen"

I don't dance, sadly, at least not to traditional music. If you want to see me dance I have to be in a really good mood and then I start to sing a random little tune and do the stupid dance I picked up from my older sister. Aside from that...well, I guess I know how to do some traditional dances (like the Virginia Reel) but I'd need a dance partner. And we all know how well that's gone. XP

I HATE how a lot of newer video games and the like have gone completely crazy with character designs! I bought the art book for Breath of Fire (all of them) a year or so back because I loved the original two games. The characters had clothes and hair that were fairly natural (some characters weren't human, so you have to be willing to accept an ox-man, and such), but then as the games went on the characters and their clothing just became....yuck. So I know exactly what you mean. I really do not like it when characters are designed that look like they wouldn't be able to move at all, or that they'd suffocate underneath all that cloth! I'll take a simpler, sleeker look any day.

On that note, I'd still love to see our own clothing styles revert back to more ancient days when clothing actually had elegance. (Like the dresses in the Narnia movies. I hate dresses, but I loved those!)

I'm so glad things went better for you. *hugs*

I know that character designs is one of the first things Stu looks at when playing an RPG and how practical the outfit actually is. I can see you being good at character designs.

What songs make me want to dance? If I had to pick, I would say "You Can't Stop the Beat", "It's an Ordinary Day" by Great Big Sea and "A Song for the Lonely" by Cher.

Happy to hear you are in better spirits love ;) I'm not much of an anime fan, but it's awesome your friend hooked you up with the vid and it inspired some very cute art on your part :P

The interesting thing about this 'Avatar' series is that's it's american - even though it burrows a lot from anime style. A live action movie is in the works. It's a good story. I hope you'll be willing to see the movie!

XD Yeah. As long as a song as a catchy tune and good lyrics, I'll dance to it.

I never really pictured you as the dancing type. Me, i,m kindoff a showoff around friends. Good friends. Very good friends. Otherwise, i'm pretty shy.

Breath of fire is one of the things that really got me wondering about costumes nowadays. Hack.Sign too. And certain magical girl series. Wow.

I prefer modern clothing for one thing - you can wear what you want. If you really feel like wearing a long gown, you actually can, and then switch to jeans the second after (I've done it a lot, but I guess i'm special.)

I've never gotten in to modern dance, which seems to be made up of people just making random movements. This past winter when I went with roommates to a guys apartment they all played some weird dancing game (not DDR, no consoles were involved) that was all about coming up with some weird dance, but it was way beyond my comfort zone. I really am not in to dancing... I ended up just sitting there bored before I decided to go spend my time doing productive things in my apartment. XP (Maybe I've spent too much time around animals, since fast movements are seen as a threat. I tend to move more slowly unless speed is needed.)

Gah, Hack.Sign! I've never watched it (beyond seeing a scene on t.v. with two characters talking to each other from opposite sides of a wall) but the design was...not that good. On the other hand, check out the artwork for the Lunar games. You might enjoy them. ^_^

Oh, if I had my way I would never ever wear anything but pants (or shorts) since I hate anything that makes it hard to move around. But since I do have to wear dresses at least once a week, I find that a lot of them just aren't that nice to look at anymore. More and more length seems to disappear for the sake of guys getting to see more skin, and dresses and tops in general are not fun to be in. (I don't know if you suffer this problem, but thanks to my ample bust, it's really difficult to find dresses that fit properly. I HATE IT!!) At least with older style dresses I don't have to worry about parts of me poking out where they're not wanted. Ugh.

Awesome -- I hope your interview goes great and you get the job. <3

Haha, I totally agree with that -- some of the newer character designs (in video games especially) have been ridiculous. A good character design has balance, both inside and out. I wish someone would tell some of these designers that. ^^;

Congrats on the interview, I have fingers crossed that it goes well for you, you deserve it! ^_^

And wow, don't get me started about dancing. I know it was different in the US, but at weddings in the UK, people normally don't start dancing until some idiot makes a fool of himself to begin. The idiots are usual my brother and me. :P I dance to anything then. My tastes are normally melodic death metal, punk, rock, things which usually require moving your head rather than your body. I do tend to want to get moving when I hear things like...

Huge death costume does not equal more interesting character! Designers seem to forget that!

By moving your head, do you mean thinking or headbangning?

I listen to a lot of punk and rock myself. My tastes are very strange and mixed. I like these songs!

Yup, I did, hehe. I listen to a lot of the heavier rock type stuff. Although if you look at my journal I'm listening to a lot by Frank Turner. And yeah, I have diverse taste as you can see. I've loved happy hardcore music from when I was young, never lost the taste for it.

Museum! Wicked! Is it an art museum or another type? I think you would rock at an art museum!

Yay Avatar!!

Half the time I think people design characters with elaborate costumes just to look cool. However, they tend to forget that they'd probably have to draw that costume over and over again. Bet they regret the fanciness after that...

*hums Queen songs*

I loved the RPG costume drawing! But it would have been more accurate if you had put a dozen belts and zippers in weird and/or inappropriate places. XD

You're right! Or Zippers that do nothing. I've always been weirded by anime characters with Zippers that do nothing. Zippers are not confortable or pretty. Stop adding extra zippers!
