Slayers revolution is an interesting title. It kinda makes you imagine a Utena-Slayers crossover (then again in episode 17 of Next there was this girl that looked a whole lot like Lady Oscar). I still haven't watched too much of Slayers, waiting patiently for the subs. However i've read chapter one and 2 of the manga and I gotta say I like the story up to now. The drawings are a little odd, but they look good. They just seem very different for the original concept art... Basically they have the feel of the current very popular manga style. I'm not really sure what this style is, specifically, but I keep seeing it everywhere.

Anyways, I was reading this essay a friend of mine wrote about sex symbols and fantasies in comic books. It's a brilliant essay. As you may guess, in japanese manga stuff like sailor fukus and a cooking apron on naked skin are REALLY popular. It kinda made me imagine this cool drawing of Lina with only a cape on. So I drew it. It sorta grew more and more and well... Lots of drawings.

So. Much. Hair. I think my Slayers fandom is mostly based on the fact that I can draw hair all over the place. Lina looks a little too cute and not shy enough, but I figured I might give it a go.

I'm also considering (to celebrate Slayer's return to tv and mang after 10 years) to draw a weekly page or two of a fan-manga that i'd post in my personal journal and on theslayers community. I've got a few stories I think about using (mainly one I started drawing based on a fanfic by Ichiban Victory) so i'm seriously considering the idea. Tell me what you guys think.

Uh... huh? What? Oh! Opinion! Absolutely, I think that's a great idea. What about the musical? Though that might be inaccessible to theslayers community given all the in-jokes, etc. I think it's a great way to do homage to the series - or maybe even do omake of what's been going on with the current stuff.

This has me writing Slayers again too - I'm working on a story revolving around Amelia meeting up with Zelgadiss again and getting her bracelet back from him.

As for the manga art, I'm very "meh" on it overall. The storyline is fantastic, and that's what's keeping me reading. Otherwise, I vastly prefer Tommy Ohtsuka and the gorgeous art he did for Premium, Knight of Aqualord, and the Special series. There are a few cute stills in this manga - especially one of Amelia in the second chapter when she's healing the animals, then when she finds out Pocota's motive.

I'm so tempted to icon some of this stuff you just posted.

Hey, who said you could draw tasteful nude shots? Who?! Seriously, I really like them, and there is a lot of symbolism in them. If I were Lina mostly naked and right behind Gourry, I think I'd be feeling pretty shy, too. (And I could really go in length on the picture with Amelia and Zelgadis, but I'll just say that I really like the portrayal.)

I'm no fan of the art style for the new manga series, but if I found it, I'd probably buy it anyway. Everyone seems to like the story so far, but I just barely touched the first chapter. So no, I haven't seen anything in the second yet. (Don't tempt me with iconage! ...I just saw the other day that I earned room for another icon. I am such a hopeless case.)

I weep for the Pikmin, but sometimes they sure felt that fragile. They deserved much better than to be killed off in that movie...although it is secretly hilarious. ^_^;

And I like the amount of hair in this series... especially Gourry's. I always liked guys with long hair and he's no exception.

I say Yes to fan comic. I think the idea is a great one and I think the collaboration between the two of you would be awesome! Diane has great storytelling skills and that paired with your art is a definite must see!

BTW, did I miss the explanation regarding zel and the toaster?

The new season has me energized too. I'm still working on that doujin idea and I'm feeling the urge to write more Slayers fanfics. I think the fan-manga is a good idea. I can see you having fun with it.

Ok, I have to say my favourites are the first image and the third image. Lina looks very sexy in the first one and I like the way the cape covers her and the third one I like because of Lina with her hands on her cheeks feeling so embarrassed. They're very well done, all four, but those two are my personal favourites. And hey! You did an awesome job on the shoulder guards!!!

A fancomic would be great if you had the time though, I would love to see it, and if it something that ichiban came up with, I'm sure it was good.

For the weekly comic thing, I was thinking of going more for the illustration of a fanfic. It's more accessible for all, and I can still make the musical for this venue XD
Maybe an omake (or a slayers in five minutes) would be fun.... Oh, studio interviews? Song parodies? The possibilities! I think I should just do a pack of stuff under a name like "slayers Infinity " or something that sounds 40 % less fangirly...

I kinda like that whole bracelet idea, if it's a short drabble, maybe i'll draw THAT (it ties in to rev. very well)

......................the art is slightly meh-ish. It's not BAD art per say, it's well drawn and it's a very popular style at the moment but MAN does it ever not fit well with the characters. ESPECIALLY Gourry who's nose looks like an ax in a garage door.

I maintain they should have hired me XD Too bad we could not sign up. XD

These are pretty tasteful nudes. I posted worse before (mainly in my paintings). I like drawing nudes, because the human body is so much fun to draw. The Lina/Gourry one is funny, and the Amelia/Zel one as a little tragic je-ne-sais-quoi. Zel has so much angst it shows thru fanwork. But see, SEE! I CAN draw the cape. I just hate to do it.

I don't know what you think about the whole page-a-week thing. I was thinking of using Slayers Memories, with the modifications I proposed (aka the sorcerer's guild being evil, Xelloss, mazoku, etc) to make it more dynamic. Heck, i've already got ten pages, might as well go for it. I don't know yet. I'm still gonna wait a bit, see if I want to get into that... Considering the crazy fans and all.

Zel and Toaster? mmmmh, it actually started in comments. I ended a comic (where I was departing to Toronto) with the line "I feel my toaster is being violated while i'm gone" (to illustrate how people party after you leave.) People commented about it being DEFINITLY violated. By Zel none the less. And the Zel/Toaster OTP was born, for no other reason then to amuse the masses.

Just because I try to avoid drawing her shoulder guards doesn't mean I can't. It just means i'm too lazy to spent an extra 30 seconds on every drawing I have of her (honestly, those poor japanese animators). I really like image one too. Image 2 didn't turn out as well as I would have hoped...

I think the main reason I don't like drawing people is because of the clothing, actually. It's never been fun for me. I've never drawn an out-and-out nude drawing though, but I do know where all those silly bits (even man parts) are supposed to go. Shocking, I know. ^_- What's funny about the cloak is that drawing it can be annoying, but sewing it can be downright impossible! Lina's is only slightly less frustrating than Zelgadis', which requires so much work, and jabbed fingers. But anyway...

I still need to rewrite those scenes you suggested, which I think would make for a better story overall. (Where were you when I first wrote it?) I really need to get back to writing. As for the page-a-week thing, I say go with what inspires you. Sometimes one good drawing tells a far better story than a whole page of drawings anyway. Such is the power of the artist.
