 Okay.

I'm taking a small drawing break tonight because I drew my arm off this weekend. As many of you know, I was at the Geekfest convention this weekend, hosting a little activity called the "Quickdraw" where people described things and got free 5minute sketches of what they wanted.

The first day didn't go so well. I was in the worse possible spot for drawing. No lights and right next to a loud speaker. On Sunday, I got moved to the dealer's room where stuff was a lot more fun. I spoke to a lot of nice people, drew a lot, got a lot of ideas for future cons where I would be selling Namesake. I met a few... stranger beings that kinda creeped me out. Conventions are very different from behind the table. As a con-goer, I didn't notice the creepers. As a con-artist, they were right in my face. guess I should consider it a right of passage. I got to draw a few... interesting... things.

On a positive note, I learned a lot, hung out with my friend Val and I think I may have found another great person to hang out with here in Montréal.... I love meeting awesome people who want to go have tea and geek out with me! I felt bad for another of my friends, Pat, who was managing a lot of the con's issues. Poor guy seemed to run around a lot. I hope he's not too tired.

While I was waiting for people to come suggest sketches, I just doodled around :

(This is on a huge piece of paper)

As of tomorrow, my quest to finish "Jabberwocky" so I can regain a social life in April continues. I'm really motivated. Only 15 pages left you guys.

Oh, in entertainment news, we finally get to see the face of Korra in the new Avatar season. Clicky clicky.

I'm also kinda disappointed in the "Beastly" movie that just came out. It was based on a very beloved book in my circle of friends.  A modern retelling of the "Beauty and the Beast". The movie kinda turned it into... I,m not sure what. The movie is cheezy. And Twilight-ified. And everyone is pretty instead of plain or ugly, like in the book, which should be expected, I guess. But I was really annoyed by the Beast. Instead of turning into a monster, the guy just turns into something that looks like a Skinhead who likes tribal tattoos. What? And that makes it monstrous? How? What kind of shallow city is that? I mean... I get the whole scar aspect.... but... huh.... He looked better with them.

This just makes me want to write a comic about metamorphosis and fairy tales who feature it.

I think i'm going to go nap for a while now.

Wow, really? I always notice the creepers, especially the stinky creepers that do not understand the concept of bathing! It's a turn off for cosplaying, that's for sure. Still, welcome to the world of being in the know. XP

(Somebody's been corrupted by gryphons, I see! ...I really ought to make a baby gryphon baby blanket..)

I never read the book, but that "Beastly" movie looked...well, it was obvious it was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, but I found it odd he was all scarred. I know there is some stigma about people with defacing scars having had personal experience with being plopped into a classroom of kids right after my failed attempt at removing my face with a rocky road, so I guess I can see why they went that way... That, and it would save a ton of money in the special effects and makeup department!

And now I need to seek out information about this book. For Knowledge!

I was wondering about that movie. All my friends are excited to see Beastly.

The movie isn't bad per se. it's disappointing, because you expect more out of it. You keep expecting more, and it just never comes. There's a lack of soul, style and ...epicness? It's not bad, but it's more of rental material then theatre material if you ask me. I didn't enjoy that much, but I can see why many would.

Yeah, I could see that. I dunno. I'm kind of with you on waiting until I can see it as a rental or get it free at the local library.

I never knew that Beastly was a book, but I thought the movie looked lame from the trailer. The idea is good, but I think some of the effects and casting issues is why I never reached out and wanted to watch it. . But I might go see if the library has the book XD

KORRA LOOKS SO BADASS! *excuse the language . . *

I love the drawlings too!!

Just wondering, have you printed Namesake into a book? If you did, where did you go to print it? Having a hell of a time finding a way to print mine...

Neat sketch! Creepers? What does a creeper consist of? 0o Glad you got moved after the first day. Set up by a speaker in dim light sounds horrid!

I'm not impressed with how Beastly looks, either, though I dunno if I wanna see it.

Maybe I shouldn't have such high hopes for Red Riding Hood after all. =/ It's still visually sexy!

Sending you intercontinental hug to get rid of the creepers

Also...Beastly...hum...it never interested me to begin with when the trailer was out

Well, I also go to cons with friends, so I mostly focus on friends and cool things. I tend to mostly go to "artistic and pretty" panels, like kimono making, origami, mask painting... so I avoid places where there seems to be a lot of creepos. I'm usually smack in the middle of the artsy and kind!

Yeah, i'm getting into drawing griffons. I drew a whole bunch of baby ones on another big sheet of paper, but I didn't take that one home.

The idea is really good. But the execution is a little... meh and bleh. Oh well. It happens.

Not yet! But we are looking into it. Me and my evil co-writer are currently researching websites where you can order stuff for a store and book printing. If I find a good place, I'll be sure to let you know. I know of some good local printers, for my other comics, but that's not too useful for you...

So planning to print Snap Crackle pop? What format?

Creeper = Someone who creeps me out. What composes the creeper varies from person to person, but it's usually a mix of pervo and socially backwards.

Worth a rental at the least in both cases to satisfy the curiosity.

Which is too bad. Beauty and the beast is such a cool story... so much can be done with it.

Oi... Aren't con creepers grand? And nice griffin! (Them's my fav mythological creature.)
I'm a little torn on the new avatar because of the bitter sweet aspect of it. I mean if Angs granddaughter is the new one then wouldn't he have to have died the moment she was born or something? Sounds like a tragic start to the series.

She's not Aang's grand-daughter though.

Oh trust me, I never went to a con alone. Even surrounded by friends, I could sense the creepers lurking... I don't like being near people with the creeper vibe though. Until a couple of years ago, when he started dating my friend of the same name, one of the guys in my gaming group had a STRONG creeper vibe. I never liked being near him... I might be more sensitive to it since I was never exposed to such things growing up, or something...

My work here is done. :D

Eeeee! Korra!!!

I don't care what the creators said about the original cast. I bet Granny Toph is there somewhere being badass.

Glad you had a good time at the con! I have never been to one, but they sound like lots of fun!

I likey the new image of Korra! I have high hopes for this series!!

*sigh* I dunno why people have to mess with something that already has a following in fandom and try to 'glamorize' it.

Having volunteered at Dragon*Con several years, I certainly know what you mean by creepers. It's even worse when you have to work with 'em on a long shift. I've met lots of really nice and cool people, though, and they have far outnumbered the creepers.

Oh! I guess I hear wrong. Okay so maybe it isn't so tragic of a start. I wonder if we'll see Ang all growed-up.

You had to sit next to a speaker? I HATE it when that happens! >_<

I guess you never noticed the creepers before because you avoided the "screaming fan" panels and didn't cosplay.
Dealing with them can be complicated. Sometimes I feel bad when I tell certain ones to piss off because a lot of them appear to be mentally ill (or just socially awkward to a debilitating degree).

SQUEE! She finally has a face! I adore her design, too. She looks really tough and butch and you don't see that a lot in leading ladies (especially in kids' shows).
I can't wait for Korra to come out. The Avatar world with Steampunk elements thrown in is going to look amazing. Hopefully, it doesn't get crushed by unrealistic fan expectations.

Yes, that's pretty much it.

I was amused that some people did bring me references of their characters. for the most part it was innocent and fun (one girl had a really nice painted version of her character. She should draw more. She had enormous potential. I told her too.)

Korra's buff-ness makes me really happy. She's an adrogynous female action girl minority as a main character. How often does THAT happen?

Yeah, i'm well-placed to avoid the creepos. But behind a table they come to see you. Oh god, the occasional horror.
