Drawings and buggins
Mar. 2nd, 2010 08:18 pm Okay, so the new Tim Burton movie (alice in Wonderland) is coming out this week. Woo! That's pretty cool! And, as a lover of all things Alice, Burton and animated, I should be really excited about it, yes?
Truth is, not that much.
I don't like Alice movies. Every movie tries to make sense out of the story of Alice and age up the character. It doesn't bother me so much when it's inspired from Alice, but when you remake Alice, there's certain things I feel you should respect. Certain things that made the story what it's suppose to be. Though i'm sure the Burton movie is going to be movie-tasty-tastic, I feel like it lacks a little something. Maybe because the movie seems to be a chronological story trying to be logical? Maybe because the white queen is all glittering pretty when she's suppose to be a useless log? Maybe it's because Alice is no longer a little girl on a growing up adventure but rather a girl escaping her wedding? But I think what really bugs me is the silence of the character. She might actually talk a lot, but in every promotional thing showed to us, she was dead silent. All the secondary characters do all the talking and she just stands there and is pretty. Alice is a chatterbox. Wonderland throws her around and she comments, annoyed, every step of the way.
I know most people hate the animated Disney version because it is composed of all these elements. But honestly? That's how the books runs. And I like it that way. I'm pretty sure i'll like the movie, but frankly, I hope Tim Burton runs a bit more closely with the books then the trailers let on. Because if someone could make a good adaptation of the book, it would be him.
As for drawings, here is a little something for
lycorne . I promised her I would draw her Avatar (the last airbender) OCs in exchange for another sketch. So here are the sketches my dear!

I did a lot of studies for Karu's movements. lycorne's OC is an airbender by accident, raised as a non-bender fire nation soldier. So when she attacks, she uses firebender forms. Most of her body moves in this very aggressive way, following firebender forms. But I still arranged one of her hands in a more delicate, airbending movement. Proof that she's learning how to combine both forms.
It's because of sketches like these that people wonder if I have training in animation. I really don't know a thing about animation. I just liked to copy Disney poses for drawings as a kid.
