Chocolate cake metaphor
Slight unpleasant surprise this morning. I got to see exactly how much Quebec taxes are bigger then Ontario (I used to work in Ontario). I told you guys I got a work bonus. Well, when I checked my bank account this morning, I noticed about 600$ (aka more then 1/4 of the bonus) was gone.
I'm not against taxes, in fact, i'm quite happy to pay them. But I was expecting the government to take about 400$. So it was a bit of a shock to see that they took 200$ more then expected. I guess i'm still not used to Quebec taxes.
If I was to illustrate that with a metaphor, it would be the chocolate cake metaphor. You just bought cake, it's delicious. And your brother walks in and eats a huge junk off it just "to taste it". And then there's a big hole where your chocolate should be. It's a bit disapointing. Yet, at the same time, you know your brother is going to take a part of the cake. Heck, you're more then willing to share. You just wish his chunk was smaller.
I guess this makes me sound greedy. But considering this money was going to be used to buy new glasses (needed), pay for my dentist (needed) and buy a couch (needed now that Twinny took his couches back). So yeah... I would have liked keeping a bit more of it.
Oh well. Watcha gonna do when you live in a shoe?
(Move to a boot and get laced. AH!)
Today's drawing is a quick sketch of Edel, a "Princess tutu" character. She's a wooden doll who decides to help her friends by defying her creators and cutting her own strings. I always found her character very sad and interesting. Before you discoverer her "doll" nature, she's a jewel-selling, music-playing, mysterious guide. That makes her awesome. Plus she was carved out of a mystical, artist inspiring tree. That's always fun too.

I'm currently watching Firefly, and debating what my next tv series should be. Suggestions?
I also need to re-watch Slayers. I still haven't seen the new seasons!

I'm a HUGE fan of Dead like me (aside from the movie. What the heck was that?) and iof Pushing Daisies, the other series by Brian Fuller!

I would second Castle, they thrown in a couple of Firefly references and some really good lines/characters in that show.
My brother recently got me into Burn Notice which is basically about what happens when a spy gets fired. It's a fun action series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz_s-qqddMY Also, I would recommend Batman the Brave and the Bold and the first season was released onto DVD (and it's cheap too).

I'm not sure what to say on t.v. series, since I tend to avoid anything current on t.v. I would of course suggest Lost, but a lot of people don't want to touch the series. Sad, since it makes the viewer actually pay attention and think, which I loved. Other than that, there's always the older British sci-fi, Red Dwarf. It shall always hold a special place in my heart. ^_-
On the other hand, if they ever open up Netflex via game consoles up there (including the Wii), that seems to be a great way to get your hands on a lot of current stuff for a decent monthly rate. I actually finally got to see Bender's Big Score at a friend's house the other night since they get Netflix via their Wii. It's actually kind of cool...

Wii get Netflix? WHAT? Awesome!

Yeah, and they've had a great ad campaign down here about getting Netflix via the Wii. Here's just one:
(I actually love seeing these commercials on t.v. They're so much fun!)

Taxes are like that here too regarding bonuses. It's pretty nuts.

I just watched Firefly for the first time at the beginning of the month.. I had seen Serenity when it first came out on DVD, but re-watching it after seeing all of Firefly makes me so sad that the series is cancelled.. It has such awesome characters and concepts and wow..

And yes, Tutu is awesome, and under appreciated. There's a second reprint. But you can get the first for cheaper. It's on amazon for about 40$, but I got it for 30$ in a comic store...

But for a show!
Lost: Very good in the first few seasons, but afterwards... meh. The storyline completely changed and it wasn't any fun after that.
My recommendation: The Vampire Diaries. Its brand new, only doing the second season now, but its similar, yet completely different from Twilight. Also a love story, but the vampires are much more strong, evil, malicious. Very intriguing, and I think at least the first season is worth watching. The second was even better. :)
Anyway, thats my recommendation. Take it or leave it, Haha.

I still don't understand taxes here really. I just fill out some sheets every January and calculate stuff. Oh wait, that's for returns.
I did have something similar happen to my 401k though. I made a chunk of money and when I left my previous job, they took like half of it back. At least I know more about 401ks than I used to, which isn't really saying a whole lot.
(You've seen Buffy and Angel by now, yes?)

As for taxes, I don't agree with taxing income at all! :( Now sales taxes etc, sure. Higher sales taxes instead would be much better. Tax the consumer not take from the working class. Say instead of 7% They charge 30% This way it's the people who are spending more and able to spend more paying more taxes. It makes it infinitely more fair. People used to give to charity organizations when they weren't being raped by the government :/ I don't like that people use the excuse of 'safety' to tax the crap out of its citizens. It's a ploy to line the pockets of politicians in my opinion.
