Nomadid colors

Yeah. It's Saturday. Which means it's "Isa draws a big fanart to test out capacities she doesn't have" day. URGH. I wanted to test out detailed characters over a painterly background. Yeah, the result is a bit "meh". Oh well. Maybe if I didn't test out a sunset at the same time, the result would have been better.

It's Aang, Tenzin (their kid in the new series) and Katara being nomadic and cute. I'm sure Appa and Momo are flying around somewhere in the background. I loved photos of Tibetans with colored clothing and baby wraps climbing mountains, so I tried to do something with about the same feel.

EDIT : Changed the version on top. The original had a "sunset tint" on the clothing that made everyone ask me why Aang's arrow was pink. To see the tinted version, click here.

[livejournal.com profile] earthstar_chan  and [livejournal.com profile] gullwhacker  are no longer visiting. They went home. It was a fun week. We mostly hung out and visited a few cool parts of Montréal. And an interesting exhibit at the museum of science about sex. It was an educational exhibit, but me and [livejournal.com profile] earthstar_chan  are still traumatized by the antique vibrator. Behold :

Yeah, that's terrifying. For more "fun" examples, visit http://www.vibratormuseum.com/

I guess i'll leave you guys with these frightening images. It's time for me to eat. Eat bacon. Hmmmmm. Bacon.

Weird post. Avatar cuteness, followed by evil technology, then bacon.

That is a gorgeous image of Aang and Katara. I love the colors that you used, and I think it turned out well.

**long time lurker of your art breaking away from the lurking-ness**

**drools over art**

Your reaction may be "meh" but I still love this. I'm not sure if it's the subject or what but I REALLY love this... Thank you for drawing it! ^_^

**slinks back into lurking**

awwwwn nice concept <3

I think the bg looks ok... the clothing color... not so much :( sorry

[identity profile] misssashay.livejournal.com 2010-07-31 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh how pretty!! LOL Aang's arrow is pink... is that the love-my-family state? ;) Love Katara's hair the best.

And wow LOL that vibrator looks more like a power tool. n_n;

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-07-31 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Here the version without the "sunset" tint. It might look better : http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c84/secondlina/nomadscopy.jpg

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-07-31 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm still meh about it.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-07-31 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, I,m glad you like it! :D

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-07-31 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
....Naw, it was the "sunset" tint I used that made him look pink. I just changed it if you check out the image again. It's kinda crappy I guess

GAH I KNOW! POWERTOOL VIBRATOR

If you go to the antique museum, they have manual operated ones that look like eggbeaters too. Not better. Less better.

[identity profile] earthstar-moon.livejournal.com 2010-07-31 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Ya! The finish product! It looks awesome and I think Aang looks adorable holding baby Tenzin.

(Those old vibrators will forever haunt our nightmares!)

[identity profile] comicaddict.livejournal.com 2010-07-31 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The vibrator is seriously disturbing and hilarious all at the same time.

I actually quite like what you did with the colors on that piece as well.

[identity profile] angelchan-2004.livejournal.com 2010-07-31 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I really love this<33 I love the faces and the outfits and the hint of orange and red in Katara's outfit. Toning pictures to match the scene can be really hard. ;.; I think your sunset toned one looks pretty good, though!

And, uh... those old vibrators scare me. D:

[identity profile] vonandmoggy.livejournal.com 2010-07-31 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Beautiful painting/drawing! Absolutely lovely!

Now I must go and stare some more at the vibrator...in...horrified fascination...yikes.

[identity profile] elle-white.livejournal.com 2010-07-31 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that image of Aang and Katara is beautiful! This was a wonderful thing to wake up to! :)

[identity profile] elirrina.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I rarely have anything to say about your drawings other than "I love it!" So this is me not really breaking the trend.

I really like the clothing you came up with.

[identity profile] the-flowergirl.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I love it. Very pretty.

[identity profile] yukinoomoni.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Heee! They're both just wonderful! I love them!

[identity profile] bonemarch.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Okay looking at the last pick I see about half way down the paper they have the long piece that looks like a lawn mower blade... What exactly is that suppose to do? I feel... A little... Scared.

[identity profile] amelia-seyroon.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Whoa. I think I'm gonna go wash my eyes out before bed. DX;

[identity profile] fenmere.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
That illustration makes me go "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"

[identity profile] spankingfemme.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
OMG! LOL! Someone actually 'used' that?!? 0o

Awesome fan art as well my sweet! Glad you had a fun visit with friends! :)

[identity profile] engelen.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
it's not so much the filter, but the base color palette...

[identity profile] brendala.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome fanart (I think the background and colors look beautiful). I especially love the new clothes you designed for Aang and Katara. And the character's personalities really shine through (Aang seems like the type who would insist on carrying the baby). ^_^

Dear Lord, just looking at those vintage vibrators is painful! The women who used those back in the day must have been seriously desperate! >_<

[identity profile] ozma914.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Those antique vibrators were once used by doctors to relieve diagnosed anxiety problems in women. That's one way to increase the number of patients in your practice!

[identity profile] jason-register.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome pic, and... WOW! People used that thing?! Scary!

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
(I KNOOOOOOWWW)

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's more disturbing if you're a girl I think. You feel pain for past generations of vaginas.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I though the orange in Katara's costume was a nice touch. Her way of saying she's with him.

...yes, they are scary, scary things.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! I looked thru all the website myself. It's oddly fascinating.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
THanks!

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahahah, thanks for saying it anyways, it's always welcomed!

I could be an earth kingdom fashion designer.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Cute and colorful love

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Do not want to know man. *is traumatized*

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's why I started the post with Kataang. I figured it would make the second part more bearable XD

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahahaha. Awesome XD

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope not XD

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude. I think he would ALWAYS carry the baby. And love every moment of it.

I think a few of these vibrators were actually "tools" in asylums. Since they treated female hysteria with orgasms. Considering a few look like they require two people or more to be operated...

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorta. It's still very invasive. I,m guessing a few women didn't like having their doctor do that sort of thing.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, it's like a steampunk nightmare.

[identity profile] amelia-seyroon.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm waiting for the day when you draw some ZukoKatara.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha. I drew some in the past for earthstart_chan. I promised her I would draw some again. since you want it too, I cannot deny you guys! I promise my next avatar drawing will be zutara. :D

[identity profile] ozma914.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
No doubt about it; certainly they walked in with more than a little trepidation. But considering how constrictive society was back then, a lot of them probably ended up with a pleasant surprise.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno man. Assuming it's fun because an orgasm is involved may not be true. You're hysterical, and the doctor "knows" what you need, and pulls out something that vaguely looks like a gun and asks you to open you legs (asking with male nurses sometimes involved?). Doesn't sound like fun to me. Sounds a lot more like rape.

[identity profile] ozma914.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw a show about it on the history channel, of all places. The women weren't dragged kicking and screaming to the doctor, and generally, they weren't really hysterical: It was one of those catchall terms used to describe a whole group of mysterious "women's" ailments, and it appears most of the women were more than happy to go back for follow-up appointments. What it boils down to, apparently, is that the men of the time were ignorant of how to please women in bed, and also didn't care -- not all that unlike many of the men of today. Imagine a researcher these days announcing that, say, occasional depression could be solved by really good sex, except of course they couldn't be so blunt as to put it that way back then. How the doctors felt about it I don't know, but if the interviewed researchers are correct, it was quite popular with the ladies.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Well i'll be damned then! :D

[identity profile] ozma914.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a different time -- that's for sure!

[identity profile] amelia-seyroon.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Awwww. I should have wished for it as a birthday gift!
