Plushie Violence

Yeah, I made you all want to see <9> didn't I? I just bought it.
I'm a weird person, there's three really silly things in life that terrify me. I mean, I have normal, serious fears, like everyone. But I also have 3 really dumb, illogical ones. Ghosts are one of them. They really scare me. I mean, i'm a whimpering coward crying in a corner with only the mention of ghosts. The second one is buzzing, flying bugs. Don't ask me why. But my friends are amused at seeing me freak out from having a dragonfly zoom past me. The last thing is toys and plushies getting destroyed, pulled apart, burned, generally maimed. I have no idea why.
When I was a kid, I though toys were alive (...damn you, Toy Story!) so the idea of one getting damaged terrified me. I was afraid that a mean toy would get his revenge. And I was worried that a kind toy would be in pain, screaming silently on the inside. Yeah, I was a freaky kid. When I saw toys in the street, lost, I always picked them up and put them in a less "dangerous" place (on a bench, under a roof so it doesn't rain on them, etc). Lost toys make me sad. Destroyed toys freak me out (again, remember how this is not a logical fear).
So yeah, that scene in Toy story where "reconstructed" zombie toys come out from under a bed is pure nightmare fuel for me.
<9> seems to be in that scary zone too. It's kinda like the Matrix had a child with Little Big Planet and the child was raised by Tim Burton. So there's violence made to plushies. Damn cute, voodoo looking stitch plushies. And yeah, most of them died and a lot get ripped in this movie. I want to see this movie because, dammit, it's Tim Burton and it looks cool. But I think i'm gonna wait until Link gets here before watching it...
For those wondering, the scene I saw was the death of Number "5". Brrrrr.
You guys must have so illogical fears too.

Here's an example from last year when I was making my Horo costume:
My mom: To make your wolf tail, we can take a wolf plushie and cut it's tail off.
Me: I...I can't do that!
My mom: *sigh* Why am I not surprised?
As for illogical fear, I can't sleep unless I have a night light, does that count? Oh, a spiders, I can't stand spiders. *shivers*

As for illogical fears, yours aren't weird, they're just different, and unique. Toy Story didn't have that effect on me, though I find the psychological effect it has on young children intriguing (blame my inner psychologist). Thanks for sharing them, though!
I don't know what illogical fears I have. Now seeing The Grudge freaked me out like there was no tomorrow. I'm over it, but a long time ago I was terrified that SHE would follow me no matter where I went, that I wasn't even safe at home. I had a hard time going to sleep because I thought the ghost was hiding in my room, just waiting to take me away.

I didn't even see the original Japanese movies (not The Ring, either), which are supposed to be a whole lot scarier, the Americanized one was horrifying enough for me. 0_0

Hmm, my phobias are dogs and planes. I have a stuffed dog plushie I've had since I was 7 and yet I'm terrified of real dogs. I also hate flying, despite doing it quite often and knowing statistically it's one of the safest forms of transportation out there.

The whole "toys being close to you" thing makes a lot of sense. Especially childhood toys. I felt bad about keeping some in boxes even...

I also find ghosts fascinating, but I've had more than a few friends scared to death about them. I guess they don't really freak me out since a ghost can't do anything to you unless they have power over you (which they can gain through fear if they are evil), so better not to let myself be consumed by fear. It might also help I grew up in a neighborhood with haunted houses, mine included...
I do have plenty of fears though, mainly being in water where I can't see the bottom (it freaks me out! Unseen bottom means drowning for me, I've never been a good swimmer) or falling. Man oh man, falling is NOT COOL.
I don't know if seeing a mutilated toy is irrational fear though, especially when the toy resembles a human. I've always taken very good care of my toys (be they from childhood or 'grown up' toys) because I'm not into abusing things anyway. I did have a friend whose oldest brother would mutilate her My Little Ponies though, so if anything, that whole scene in Toy Story took me back to being a kid and wondering why a unicorn was missing its horn, another pony had its eyes gouged out, etc. It's...kind of sick..
Lastly, I'll be honest: Tim Burton freaks me out. Some of his movies are very good, but others just from the premise send me running the other way. I've a feeling the same will hold true when his version of Alice in Wonderland comes out since the Disney movie already scarred me as a child (I hate the Queen of Hearts! She's so scary!), so pairing up scary childhood movie with Tim Burton is such a deal breaker! ...so yeah, I'm also very wary about what I watch since visual imagery really can affect me.

That, and I've always had a "mess with me if you dare" attitude in regard to anyone or anything trying to come at me.

Actually, I have a fear of dolls with those old-fashioned shiny glass/plastic eyes that never close. I will not be able to sleep in a room even if there's only one such doll. O_O

Hmm, illogical fears... maggots! I know, logically, that they're just baby flies. They don't mean to nest in dead things, and they really just wanna grow up into the best flies they can be. But I absolutely, ABSOLUTELY cannot stand them, even looking at them! This from a person who loves spiders.
(I also have plenty of logical fears. See icon. See. Freaking. Icon.)

I,m not especially afraid of maggots but I do find them pretty gross.

1. Man-made heights. Planes don't scare me, nor do cliffs or mountains. But put me more than 2 stories up where I can see the way down on anything man-made (like stairs) and something in the back of my brain starts screaming bloody murder and I start gripping anything I can for support.
2. Mushroom circles. I will have an absolute fit if anyone tries to make me cross one. I guess this is why?
3. Also, I hate being in dark rooms with uncovered mirrors. I cannot handle it. If the light is on, I'm fine, but otherwise I have this rabid fear of a woman in the mirror throwing axes and the like at you from with the mirror if you can't get the light on before she gets you. That was the variation of invoking "Bloody Mary" that I grew up with. Even though I've never said it three times in a dark room with a mirror, the fear remains.

And 9 looked very intriguing to me, but if it's gonna be scary, I might have second thoughts...

But I'm with you on toys -- I used to think they were real when I was a kid too (I looooved plushies -- still do :p) and to this day I don't like seeing them torn or abused. It makes me sad. So that said -- I don't think your fear is illogical at all. Even if they aren't real, toys are still awesome. :D
