Dare to dream of magical cupcakes.

You all know i'm awful at cooking. I mean, just awful. I suck. A lot. And it's not about trying harder either. I think i'm genetically restrained.

In any case, I just learned Thinkgeek is selling a mini cupcake machine. Make batter, shove batter, get a cupcake in five minutes.

Behold it right here.

NO MORE BURNING AND LOTS OF CUPCAKES? YES PLEASE.

EDIT : I wish the whole thing really worked like magic, but I guess it probably doesn't. Really, i'm more interested in the gadget and "magical cupcake" aspect then the product itself.

Maybe I should look into pasty fairies instead.

Woah, this reminds me of my childhood. Easy bake oven, anyone?

That looks amazing! I know what its like to not be able to cook!

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It's probably not that great though. I think i'll be stuck in my cakeless world forever!

[identity profile] amelia-seyroon.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I never had an Easy Bake oven. =(

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think I had one either, but this still reminds me of my childhood.

Dude, ThinkGeek sells the BEST stuff! There is so much on there that I simply drool over!!

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Like the tardis cookie jar.

[identity profile] snapdragon76.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Heee, yes. I saw that...

[identity profile] rose.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
D: ugh, need. NOWWWW.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It's probably not that great in the end, but if it was really magical, I would love one.

There's no such thing as being genetically restrained, it's all a matter of learning and having presence of mind when cooking or baking. I had roommates convinced they could not cook/bake until I had them help me out in the kitchen, and once they gained some basic skills, they took off on their own.

The thing seems like a nifty idea, but I think in the long run it would be yet another gadget to take up space in the cupboard. You can't even bake that many cupcakes at a time, so you would be slaving over that thing waiting to swap out the cooked cupcakes with more batter. I can't see the convenience of it at all! XP (And seriously, don't throw everything together then stir it like the guy did in the video. That's a no-no in baking.)

If you keep burning things, try lowering the temperature of the oven, or lessen the baking time.

Thank you for saying what I dared not. :D

Yes, cooking is for everyone, but you need to put your mind to it and be careful. Especially for baking! Please please please, don't buy this silly gadget. The cupcake don't look so good, the top doesn't even brown :(

Heck, I'll give you my recipe if you want to try to do them from scratch. And if you really are having a hard time, have Mr. BF bake them for you ;) hahaha

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, I probably won't really buy it. I think I just fell in love with the idea of instant food, but usually after I get over the original "lol" effect, I don't actually purchase stuff like this.

Boyfriends are a way to get instant food.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, you can post to Lj thru facebook? That's cool! I didn't know that!

...which would explain why my facebook account is so very dead.

[identity profile] daniel dupuis (from livejournal.com) 2010-12-17 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It worked out automatically... which is kind of scary because now I have my real name out here and no way to change it. I managed to change the picture though. ah well...

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Ouais.

[identity profile] ichiban-victory.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Just doing my job. ;)

I say you give her your recipe anyway. I love cooking from scratch, but I've never had a good cupcake recipe. I'd rather not go the cake mix route like they did in the video. BLEH!

[identity profile] daniel dupuis (from livejournal.com) 2010-12-17 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
are you sure it's not YOU that wants the recipe? hahaha

[identity profile] daniel dupuis (from livejournal.com) 2010-12-18 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
You seem like a proficient cook, so I'll give you my reference. I tweaked the recipe a little bit, but nothing big. I'm sure you'll find some things to adjust to your taste. Maybe you know the TV show, maybe not, but it's my favorite cook show. :D

Good Eats! I should have known! This is my favorite cooking show as well, but I never seem to catch it when it's on. (I really want his cookbooks, but they're more than what I'm worth right now.) Thank you very much!

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Boo. I probably would have never bought it in the end (I don't like buying things like that online since you can't test them out). But I would love to have cupcakes that magically appear in five minutes.

Hey, I tried learning. I even worked at a bakery once. But for some reason, when I cook for myself, it fails. Maybe I just don't like myself, or something.

[identity profile] ichiban-victory.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Six minutes, but same difference. Why not just befriend someone local who will bake for or with you? As with everything, I bet if you had a patient teacher, there are a lot of things you could learn and gain some confidence in. (And I find it really weird you said the other day on my blog you could cook, yet here you say you can't.)

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't bake I guess is what I meant to say. I can cook soups and meals decently enough. Or at elast I though I could. But i've been told again lately that my food was horrible.

...So now i'm pretty much convinced I suck no matter what, since when I was thinking I was getting better, apparently it was sucking.

The question is, did you enjoy the food you made?

I am very good at cooking and baking, but that didn't mean people loved my food. I make it tailored to my tastes (like making food very spicy), which not everyone likes. No matter what you do, someone is bound to think you are a terrible cook because your food doesn't taste good to them.

Mmm, cupcakes...Though I bet that thing is a pain to clean between batches!

Aha, the guy at the end of the video really cracks me up. XD

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably is.

[identity profile] cxco.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I almost bought this for my sister for X-Mas!

Easy bake oven was my LIFE. That and an ice-cream maker machine. So much fun.

[identity profile] earthstar-moon.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Neat! I know it wouldn't be instant, but I love the idea of instant cupcakes. XD

And hey, not everyone is good at everything food related. Stu is the cook for meals between us (I can cook, but he just loves it more) but I am a better baker than him. (Worse case, I'll bring baked goods with me. ^_~)

[identity profile] spankingfemme.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm... insta-cupcakes :P It still looks like you pretty much have to do all the work outside of oven heating ;) I'm not much of a baker, but I was told the best way to tell if it's done is poking a fork in the middle, and when it comes out clean you're done :P

I remember the commercials for Easy bake oven, but I never actually saw one in person :P
