About this weekend...

Lots and lots of stuff happened. I was mostly doing okay. Once in a while, I had pretty bad cramps, but as a general rule, I was doing okay. tonight i'm back to bad, but it's fine, since I had a great weekend.

First off, I finally bought a second screen so i'd have two screens on my computer. That way I can color and watch movies at the same time. It's not that useful for my drawing per se, but it prevents me from being bored while I draw, and that always boosts productivity. Link when to get the screen and installed it before I got home on Friday, because he's the bestest boyfriend ever. Give him a hand, folks!

Then, this weekend, my good friend Fauve and her fiance visited. On Saturday, she and I went to the Montréal anime con "Othakuthon". It was pretty fun! Last time we went to this con was in the opening year, where the quality of it really disappointed us. This year, there was a lot of improvement. The costumes were beautiful. I was really impressed by a sexy Scarlet witch and a really beautiful Katara, who looked truly like the character herself.  I got a plushy, and the "Pretear full collection" for 14$ (I know, wow).

In the artist alley, two friends of mine were doing very well. Hinoraito was selling her gorgeous hand-made earings and her shoujo manga (check out the link for her awesome art you guys! It's awesome!). My friend Patrick was selling his pixel-art. He's quite talented (he made me a pixel cheshire cat!) and people really noticed him. I'm so happy for them!

Funny anecdote. I followed a very sexy pink bunny girl with a hammer inside a Tim Hortons (coffee franchise, for all you Americans out there) that was near the con. There was a lot of men in suits. Their reactions were priceless and deserving of a comic.

After the con, me and Fauve went to visit old Montreal, where a traditional Matsuri festival was taking place. Fauve also wanted to visit the jewelry shops in the old Montreal to get silver snowflakes earings, just like the ones I had found there a while before.

After that, we went to see SCOTT PILGRIM. Now again in bold for good mesure : SCOTT PILGRIM

Taaaaadaaaa (Yes, that art is mine, don't be fooled).

The movie was pretty good. I still prefer the books. Except for the ending. I prefer the movie ending. It was nicer to the character of Knives. Though it made Ramona into more of a woobie. But I guess she was a woobie all along. My favorite part was Scott's epic window escape. And Wallace. wallace was perfect. He can text in his sleep! The thing I didn't like about the movie was Michael Cera. No matter how good the movie was, he still doesn't feel like Scott Pilgrim to me. Though his voice works. It's really his face and mannerisms. Check out this Scott Pilgrim animation (it's gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and you can see that his voice really works with the character. It's really his body language that clashes.

Yay. Monday tomorrow. Or rather, not yay. There's some kind of conflict amongst the members of the team. I'm not clear on the details, but lemme tell you, the work ambiance sucks. I feel sick whenever I need to walk out of my desk. I don't even want to go to work tomorrow. I'm afraid this is going to end badly because it's a conflict between two people who pretty much hold the thing together. I really fear for my workplace. :(

I always feel bad for the locals when conventions come to town. Some con-goers are very...hmm...energetic? I think I prefer being able to blend in with the common man myself, instead of drawing so much attention to myself. I bet those men were pretty shocked to see a bunny girl! Here in Washington we're trying to crack down on businesses that exploit women like that. It's a bit scandalous. ^_^;;

Tension in the work place is awful! That's one good thing about losing my job. I don't have to deal with such things anymore. I sure hope it gets resolved in your workplace though.

(And congrats on the extra screen! I love watching movies while I sew. I no longer have a t.v. in my room like I used to, but the other day I actually got desperate and used my iPod Touch to watch a movie while sewing, and it actually worked pretty. I mainly just like having the noise, and it gives me a good indicator on how much time I've spent on something. I just wish I had more movies on the thing.. Anyway, I agree to watching movies while trying to be productive.)

...your art always makes my day. And I haven't even seen Scott Pilgrim. *A*

Ah, the joys of entering mundane establishments while in full cosplay. I had some good times walking the streets of San Diego in my Hawkgirl costume. :)
...however, walking around San Francisco in cosplay is no fun because the locals don't even bat an eye. LOL

I really want to see the Scott Pilgrim movie now that I've read so many glowing reviews. But I'm not sure if I should read the comics first and risk going to the movie in nit-pick mode. :P
Speaking of Scott Pilgrim, I didn't know it was set in Canada until I watched that cartoon. Are Goths really on par with Jocks in Canadian school cliques?

:(

Scott won't be coming to Mexico until October :(

I might try to make a quit trip to McAllen some weekend tho...

*cheers for Link*

Woah, the full set of Pretear for that cheap? I'm really jealous... I would love to get it for that price! D: I'm glad you had a good time, but I hope you're able to get some rest, Isa<3

Aaaah, I love your Scott Pilgrim picture<333 So much detail in each character and everything.

Glad to hear the movie is good! I'm going to go see it on Tuesday morning, I think. I've already figured that Cera wasn't going to be that great (he doesn't... really look like how I thought Scott would look, you know?).

*hugs*

In your Scott Pilgrim pic, I'm looking at the girl holding the sword to his - well, owww.... O_o

I need to see this movie, though it'll probably be a rental with my schedule as of late. The commercials crack me up every time. I just wish it wasn't Michael Cera. He's overexposed, IMO, and typecast.

I totally know the feeling regarding the anime convention. The last time I went to the only con offered in Colorado, they held it in the literal business center of Denver - in the hotel all the executives stay at when they want to come check in on their businesses. I didn't cosplay, but yikes, the dirty looks...

*Starts off with a slow single clap building to a thunderous applause for Link*

I like the expressions of the men it runs the gambit of mildly uncomfortable to slightly appreciative of the scantly clad person.

The Scott Pilgrim comics were awesome, though I am torn on Cera as Scott. You're right he does have the voice but I thought his build was a bit too thin. (Scott was suppose to be the best fighter in the province after all. ^_-) But once I'm feeling better I'll have to check it out anyway.

I remember when Jon and I went to the hotel on the bus and there was also this elderly couple. We got off the bus and the poor old couple looked like they had been left on an alien planet with all the cosplayers. XD

I'm glad you had fun. I always feel bad for the locals who have no idea why these weird dressed people are coming from.

You'll have to tell me what you think of Pretear, I think you'll really enjoy it. ^_~

I always feel sorry for restaurants that are close by conventions. I'm sure the wait staff have a lot of stories to tell, but it's got to be some weird shit.

Also, Scott Pilgrim <333

The con sounds like it was a blast! And awesome for your friends doing well in it! I like the bunny suit girl and appraising suits :P I'm sure the living moment was priceless :P

You are right, their reactions are priceless, great job!
