Holidays and better days

First off, I finished a lovely piece of art for the Namesake website. There's a webcomic update that fall on Christmas (since it's a Saturday0. I don't want to skip an update, but I don't want to put a page on Christmas either. So I made funny holiday art.

It's the Namesake Gang (without Emma and Warrick, who are busy in Oz) in front of the portal/door to Christmas Town from "The Nightmare Before Christmas". Seemed like a fitting joke, considering the skeleton man is named Jack too and Burton has his own version of Alice going. Also, I adore those holiday doors from the movies. Those are some cool portals. Not as cool as the little door in Coraline, but close!

Also, Jack's hat cracks me up so bad.

I also drew this :

But this is for the Comic Creator Alliance. What is the Comic Creator Alliance you ask? Well, It's a group of Comic Book Creators (mostly webcomic authors), who have come together, volunteering artistic talents to raise money for the purpose of ending human trafficking. A bunch of artists get together, create a group wallpaper. The wallpapers (and posters) are given for donations and the donations go to help eliminate traffic of children kidnapped and sold into sexual slavery. I'm all for stopping that. So I volunteered. Emma and the Cheshire Cat will be part of the wallpaper.

I'll let you guys know when the wallpaper is available. Donate if you can. Human traffic is a pretty horrible thing. You get to contribute to stopping it and you get art. Good things indeed.

Artists on my list who have female characters? You can also sign up as artists! Please do. The more people, the better!

This is the 5th charity thing i'm getting involved with this year. For a cynic, I sure like signing up for these things.

Because, under that cynical heart you claim you have, you really have a heart of gold. :P

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-14 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Can I melt it into money? I'd love money. :p

[identity profile] dqbunny.livejournal.com 2010-12-14 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
No, Scrooge, you can't melt it into money. *pets you*

Awwww, I love Holiday art!

And that charity sounds fantastic. It's a cause that really pulls at my heart strings, too.
So...I'm guessing I have to wait until the drive to donate (I didn't see any donation button on that site)?

So does this make you a hopeful cynic?

[identity profile] noseless-wonder.livejournal.com 2010-12-14 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
Alice looks a little perturbed about this development. X) I love The Nightmare Before Christmas! =D *Will now have "What's This?" stuck in my head for the rest of the night*

Nice fanart. I have a hat just like Jack's only it has a red and black plaid pattern on it.

Human Trafficing is horrible, and I'm all with stopping it. I saw a movie about that and I had to turn it off because it was upsetting and had an urge to hit them. Thankfully they were stopped. Down with the bloody human trafficing! I watched AiW 2010 way too much...not as much as How to train your dragon though.

Yes! Anything to put a stop to human trafficking!

Because ugh, even though it was short and a simulation, going through that online course and making all these choices was enough to get me depressed. DX;

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-14 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
But I would love money!

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-14 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you have to wait for the drive to start, but no worries! I'll post when it does and donate myself.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-14 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess so?

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-14 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha! That's a good song! I love Jack perky-gothness.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-14 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
That just makes the hat better! I was too lazy to make it plaid :D

Yah, i've seen a few documentaries on that too. Last year I participated in this drive (by donating only) and in this art exhibit to gather money to stop sexual exploitation of youth. It's a cause I feel strongly about.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-14 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
You went thru a simulation that was aimed at destroying a smuggling ring?

[identity profile] amelia-seyroon.livejournal.com 2010-12-14 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's more like...this is how it went for me.

After a long day of work, you and your friend decide to hit the town and blow off some steam.
You go off the main road for a bit and notice a seemingly desolated bar. You really have to go to the toilet, so you and your friend go in.
The bar is dark, you see a large man standing guard, you go to the bar table, and the waitress is a young girl.
You notice she's attractive, you try to talk to her, she doesn't answer, avoids eye contact, and only nods when taking orders. Judging by her actions, you think she seems really uncomfortable, and she keeps looking to the large man.
You really have to go, and ask for the toilet. You get lost and end up in the back of the bar, in a dumpster alley.
You see two men with a girl and....I can't even type it out.
It ended with me calling the authorities.

Heheheeee... I love the art! And I giggled mightily when I saw what door they were standing in front of. Speaking of which, that movie is on my list for my Christmas time viewing!

I also adore Jack's hat.

And since I cannot find any Namesake icons, I might have to resort to making one (or two). There will definitely be a Jack one... :DD

Fun Christmas Namesake art! XD

That is a great cause to donate art to. How are they going about helping stop human trafficking? *is curious*

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-15 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
(O_O) DAMN.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-12-15 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, i,m probably gonna watch it myself soon :D

We really should make some :D An icon just for the hat would be cool...

Oh look!

But really we should make a whole pile soon. Lazy artists! Lazy!

All the profit is donated to Love 146 and Gracehaven. One organization does intervention to go get kids out of those situations. The other offers security, shelter and rehabilitation to girls under the age of 18 who are victims of commercial sexual exploitation.

[identity profile] snapdragon76.livejournal.com 2010-12-15 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I already made one. *points to icon*

But an icon of his hat would be all kinds of cute!

[identity profile] earthstar-moon.livejournal.com 2010-12-15 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
*laughs* It would be an epic crossover! XD

Also, it sounds like a good cause to me. Let's hope this will raise a lot of money. ^_^

(And yes, I made my own icon.)

See, sometimes we have to fend for ourselves we does! LOL!

[identity profile] amelia-seyroon.livejournal.com 2010-12-15 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
*sniffs and clings* It gave me chills.

That's a very worthy charity.
