 So, if you are an Avatar : The Last Airbender fan and were awake when the internet exploded this morning, you already know that Nickelodeon officially announced The Legend of Korra this morning, a sequel to the popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. Set for a 2011 debut, Korra will be set after the events of the original series and will focus the new Avatar, a waterbender named Korra.

The story goes something like this : 

The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang – a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenaged girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra. With three of the four elements under her belt (Earth, Water, and Fire), Korra seeks to master the final element, Air. Her quest leads her to the epicenter of the modern “Avatar” world, Republic City – a metropolis that is fueled by steampunk technology. It is a virtual melting pot where benders and non-benders from all nations live and thrive. However, Korra discovers that Republic City is plagued by crime as well as a growing anti-bending revolution that threatens to rip it apart. Under the tutelage of Aang’s son, Tenzin, Korra begins her airbending training while dealing with the dangers at large.

Sounds cool to me. Cool enough to make me want to draw art of Korra, even though we have yet to see her face. So behold, my version of Korra. I do realize that this fanarts will be scrapped as soon as more production images come out, but meh, at least I can say I tried guessing. Awesome grandpa Aang and Badass Grandma Toph are in there as a bonus.

My opinion of this news? YAY! YAY! YAY! I don't really have an opinion about this news series other then "Yay, new shiny thing!" because, let's be honest, this is very little information to go on. A few people seem worried about the steampunk, but I've seen asian inspired steampunk in french comics before, and it can be really cool. So i'm not worried.

Other cool thing : Anybody remembers American McGees' Alice? Aka my favorite Horror and Gore Wonderland video game ever? A SEQUEL IS COMING. The graphics looks....AAAARGH! ISA WANTS.



Go to the website to check out the teaser. Hum. Don't watch it if you don't like horror and gore. The teaser itself is pretty freaky.

I was wondering how long it would be before there were sketches. ^_~ I love that it's a female Avatar and they're really going for a different plot this time, especially since Korra has mastered water, fire and earth.

I'm not too worried about the steampunk. There's already a bit in the series, so as long as they don't go for a solely "Victorian" look because that would be weird.

I'm taking bets that Toph is going to be the Queen of Omashu because that would be awesome.

I heard of that game and I've watched clips of it on youtube. I knew it was a matter of time before a sequel was made.

Those are some really fun drawings! I love your older Toph and Aang. I bet older Toph would take even less nonsense from people than younger Toph! She'd be like Russian babushki, and they're pretty much the toughest people I've ever met.

I'm excited about the new series. It'll be interesting to watch it as it comes out, since I came very, very late to the original (this last year a friend told me about it, then I zipped through the episodes for paper-writing breaks!).
