Yeah, we have been strung up by consumerism in all of its many facets :P
See now, I can like a new take on a book done in a movie, but I'm one of those people that likes the story to stay the same without a lot of deviation because the media is fun in itself as a visual. If the characters change in personality, it really irritates me, but I can understand when certain parts of a book have to be cut or altered to make it time sensitive or 'doable' on the big screen (Luckily with CGI tech these days most of these problems are moot by now.) I did like the changes in the movie Kick Ass better than the graphic novel (this may be because I saw the movie first though :P)
