Bleh.

 Feeling sick-ish again.

I don't know why I'm always so sick when I start my period. The craps are horrifyingly bad and I just feel like vomiting all day. It was going better for a while but now it's bad again. *sigh* I'm hoping this miracle medication they gave me before will work again. At least I got to sleep last night. Usually when I sleep a little the pain fades a bit. So I feel a bit better today then yesterday morning. Still wish I wasn't going in to work though.

At least the weekend is here! Yaaaaay.

This weekend, my friend Fauve is visiting. There's a con in Montreal (Otakuthon) and it's also my friend's Sofi's birthday. So I won't be drawing much this weekend. But it's okay. dqbunny is still tweaking out the dialogue for the first chapter of Namesake, so I can take a drawing break. I managed to finish drawing the prologue! Yaaaay! :D IT'S ADVANCING YOU GUYYYYYS!

I'll leave you guys with these following fairy tale pictures. They aren't drawn by me. They are from a really old fairy tale book my mom found at work (she's the library technician at the Eduction Ressource Center of the Ottawa University). They have really amazing fairy tale books! And most of these are going to go into storage pretty soon. So sad...

This Beauty had EVIL SISTERS! It's the original version of the tale, and she totally did. Check out these b*tches.

*Gasp* She's reading! Oh noes!

OH NO TWO WOLVES! (There's actually more on the second page where the text is).

Beast, I love your castle.

Who needs a pocket version of the magic mirror?

I didn't get many scans of the beast. Here, beast dying.

And then he upgrades to...Swan-man?

Those illustrations are gorgeous o.o

Very A. Mucha style though

The top drawings made me think you got the henna tattoo from hell. XD

That Beauty and the Beast book is absolutely gorgeous! I'd buy it if I saw it in a store (too bad that thing is probably way out of print). Thanks so much for scanning it!

Orange juice and chicken soup with lots of garlic, that'll cure anything.

And wow that's a pretty book. I like beasts castle both inside and out. I want to live in menacing raven fortress with the awesome interior! Though how does beast end up dying in the book?

[identity profile] cxco.livejournal.com 2010-08-13 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Those pictures...fantastic!
Also, you're going to Otakuthon? Hopefully I'll be able to catch a glimpse of you in real life!

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-13 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey! YOU'RE BACK! *Yaaaaaays*

I'm going to Otakuthon on Sunday, though consideringt he crowd, I doubt you'll manage to spot me :( I'm too discreet!

Meeting up would be cool eventually/soon. :D

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-13 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have to mix the soup and the juice do i?

In the original fairy tale, the beast dies of a broken heart. But she tells him she loves him, so his death turns him back into a prince. It's a little weird XD

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-13 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Evil henna? That's kindoff awesome.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-13 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
That's about what I do too. Roll in corner and wait for the pain to leave.

I scanned high-rez versions. Considering the thing is out of print/about to go in storage, I think it would be okay to print large versions for ourselves.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-13 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I knoooooooow. I love it so much!

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-13 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah. Completely old and out of print. And about to get thrown in storage to boot. :(

[identity profile] elirrina.livejournal.com 2010-08-13 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope your miracle medicine works!

Those are gorgeous. Do you know when the book was published?

[identity profile] earthstar-moon.livejournal.com 2010-08-13 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad that time of the month has never been a huge problem for me. I hope your medicine works.

Those drawings are gorgeous, I love the last one. Too bad they're going into storage.

It's the only way it'll work so mix them, mix them NOW!

Oh okay, I remember another fairytale where a retainer is heart broken by the loss of his master. So to keep himself alive he had iron bands put around his heart. At the end of the story the master is returned and they hear the jingling of the iron bands rattle on the ground as they ride away. It's kind of neat but as a kid I couldn't suspend disbelief for it. (I wondered how he got the iron in him in the first place.)

Also I think we all should think long and hard about investing in Raven Fortress... You know it would be killer!

Do you have an ISBN for the book? My Uncle is an antiques dealer specializing in rare books. I think I'm going to ask him about it. After seeing these pages... me wantsssss! :)

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-13 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
# Hardcover: 35 pages
# Publisher: Macmillan (1963)

Mild research - the original I had in my hads was from 1963, but there's a 1990 re-print! OMG!
1990 re-print isbn

If you can get your hands on a second copy, please let me know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently, from ym short research, a few antique online stores might have it.

The illustrator is the same as for the Eloise books... What really?

Ugh, I hate cramps. I still get them pretty bad but when I was in high school it was so much worse. I use to live with a hot water bottle on my side the whole span. Great ticket out of Math during the school year but it was awful during summer :( I'm so sorry!! Hang in there and try and get some caffeine in. That tends to help some!

Omg, beautiful <3 I know this sounds ridiculous but I love the way Beauty's hair is drawn. It's like silk!

Have you ever come across the illustrators John Bauer and Kay Nielsen? They're my absolute favorites. I wish there was an illustration community on LJ!! Is there? Bleh :| I'm pretty sure there was a children's book one but someone said it was abandoned.

[identity profile] savageknight.livejournal.com 2010-08-13 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. The reprint is easily enough available (both from AbeBooks.fr and amazon.com) and it's still in hardcover format...

hmmm... although the original is in a larger format and 9 extra pages...

Thanks for the info. I'll open the request :)

Gorgeous illustrations. I had almost forgotten this version of the story.

Thank you so much for sharing these!!! Gorgeous!

You said that you get sick because of a blood issue, right? I would imagine that being on your period would do allll sorts of magical fucking-up to that. Your iron levels would tank, as well as your energy levels, because your body is spending all of its energy trying to maintain said lost iron.

Which totally sucks, by the way. *hugs hard* I'm sorry you're going through that.

Oh exciting! I love children's books. I studied to be an illustrator, but got sidetracked into teaching.

[identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com 2010-08-13 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I love them too. I actually buy a whole bunch because the drawings are amazing.

Ah! Tattoo attack!

Oh, those illustrations are very pretty!

Kinda wish I had the weekend off, but I guess working 3 and 4 days in a row isn't as bad as 5.

Same here! Have you seen the copy of Tatsinda that's illustrated by Irene Haas? (Here's a picture of the cover). The style reminds me of this copy of Beauty and the Beast; it's from 1963 as well. I'm going to get a copy of it sometime soon!
