More random sketches

This week, i've been in a really sketchy mood! Plus I finally got comic ideas, so expect comics to start appearing again! (YAY INSPIRATION). My muse has been slacking off. Maybe I forgot her in Florida a month ago?

Sketches are mostly "How to train your dragon" things. This movie decided it wanted to sit on my brain.

Today is my monthly "I go to my favorite store, come out with 60$ less and 3 comics more" day. European comics are so much more expensive then manga or American issues. But the quality of the print and covers is always so much better, it makes up for it. I ordered and will get to leave with this brand new series called "Witches" that explores famous "witch" characters through history. It looks and sounds really cool. And the drawings are insanely pretty.

I've been a little hit lately by how many good artists there are out there. You always expect that there are people who are better then you out there. But it's a little frustrating and intimidating when they post their drawings right next to yours offline or online. I try to use this as a motivator, but sometimes, when you see a 16 year-old kid that draws like some kind of god, you feel a little... tiny.

In an unrelated note, I am easily amused. You guys heard about that new romantic comedy called "The Back-up plan?" It's basically about the unmarried antics of Jennifer Lopez who is desperate for a child, and is artificially inseminated through a sperm bank. Newly pregnant, but not yet showing and unaware of her pregnancy, she meets Alex O'Loughlin, and the two start dating. Hollywood romantic complications ensue. It's a pretty ridiculously bad movie. But what really shocked me was the inital title (that is still the french title). "Plan B" (yes, "plan" and "B" are bilingual words and the expression itself is bilingual). What made my laugh is the fact that Plan B is a very well-known over-the-counter morning after pill (to prevent unwanted pregnancies). I'm guessing that 's WHY the english name suddenly changed. Someone in the marketing department went "STOP THE PRESSES!" Too bad the they forgot about the french. Whoops.

Aaah, marketing?

These are so cute! I need to start trying to draw Toothless because he's so cute and Astrid looks pretty with her hair down. XD By the way, the one of Hiccup saying "stereotypical that was" do I sense that was inspire by the drabble? ^_~

*laughs at the irony of the title* It's funny how a simple phrase or word can mean something else in another language. Example: I read how Avatar: The Last Airbender got change to "The Legend of Aang" in some countries because airbender means something else that's rather rude, but I can't remember what that was. XP

The thing with "Plan B" is that the title actually ment something different in english too (Plan B is distributed all over North America). So, it's a bit of a "duuuuuhhhh--hhhhuuuu" moment. Again, that's probably why it got changed in english. They just forgot the other languages.

The movie itself seems a little weird. I was unhappily dragged to see it with a friend. For a romantic comedy, it's pretty preachy. It was hard to ignore the whole "woman should have babies!!!! EVEN IF YOU ARE ALONE. The universe will help you in some way!" message. As much as I agree that having a family is part of the great experiences of life this seemed like a forceful "everything with a uterus should be using it!" type of message. It really felt pro-family and even borderline anti-single-moms and anti-abortion. So yeah. Weird preachy movie. The irony of the title kinda made it funny in that way.

Yeah, that message would have annoyed me too because newsflash not every woman on this earth wants to have a baby. @_@ I know plenty of women that are perfectly happy being child free. I think it's a lot harder for a family if a woman has a child when she didn't want to have children in the first place. That can't make the kid feel very welcome. -_-;

Families are great. But people who do not want them or people who are in bad situations should reconsider. Kids should not be used as Band-aids.
